Queen of Soul: Aretha Franklin dies at the age of 76

Aretha Franklin is dead.

The Queen of Soul, who became the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame died on Thursday at the age of 76 from advanced pancreatic cancer.


Furthermore, her publicist confirmed that she passed away at her home in Detroit.

In a statement,her family read;

‘In one of the darkest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our heart. We have lost the matriarch and rock of our family,’

‘We have been deeply touched by the incredible outpouring of love and support we have received from close friends, supporters and fans all around the world. Thank you for your compassion and prayers.’


It continued:

‘We have felt your love for Aretha and it brings us comfort to know that her legacy will live on. As we grieve, we ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time.’

Franklin had battled a number of undisclosed health issues in the past years.

Having one of the greatest voices in music history, and for hits like ‘Respect’ and ‘You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman’;

Her records sold millions of copies around the world and won 18 Grammy awards.


The music industry couldn’t honor her enough.

Arrangements for the icon’s funeral will be announced in the coming days.

Aretha is survived by her four sons.
