Njia Boys High School student burnt to death after fire guts dormitory

A form two student was burnt to death after fire burnt down a dormitory at Njia Boys High school in Igembe central constituency.

The cause of fire is yet to be established.

The student, who was killed in the fire, was sick and was sleeping in the dormitory when the fire struck at around 7pm on Wednesday night.

Martha Kanario, a neighbor at the school, said the heard screams at around 7pm and we went to see what was going on.

“On reaching the school gate we were prevented from entering until the fire engine arrived at around 7:30 but could not salvage the dormitory that was burnt to ashes,” Kanario said.

Peter Tuituma said he heard screams and saw smoke billowing and rushed to the school but they were not allowed to get inside.

Glory Muthoni said the schoo was using a generator at the time of the inferno.

Igembe Central Sub county police boss Paul Odede confirmed one dormitory and a section of another dormitory  was razed down in the Wednesday night incident.

“The body that was burned beyond recognition was discovered in the dormitory that was competey razed down,” Odede said.

He said they are yet to establish the cause of the fire

He said the body of the deceased was taken to Nyambene level Four hospital mortuary where a dna test will be done to estabish the identity of the student.

Odede said they will take some  tests to government chemist to hep in the inquest.
