Celeb businesses that have collapsed over the years

Businesses may sometimes flourish or face challenges that force them to close. Several Kenyan celebrities have had to end their business ventures.

Social media influencer and YouTuber Murugi Munyi recently announced the closure of her Wild by Murugi apparel store.

The store, which had been in operation for at least two years, is currently clearing its available stock with a 50% discount on all items.

Murugi explained that she started the business during a period when she was focused on hustling and creating extra income streams.

However, she now admits that it no longer aligns with her current stage of life.

Earlier in 2024, Betty Kyallo faced significant challenges with her business, Flair by Betty. She decided to close the salon due to the harsh economic climate and difficulties in negotiating rent reductions.

Despite this setback, Betty expressed a sense of peace and contentment, emphasizing the importance of her mental well-being over business pressures.

However, she is not stepping away from entrepreneurship entirely and has relaunched her other venture, Aftershave By Flair, which caters specifically to men.

Media personality Alex Mwakideu officially closed his businesses, Pampered Rides and Pampered Village, in January 2023.

The primary reasons for the closures included financial difficulties and operational challenges that made it unsustainable to keep the businesses running.

Popular comedian and content creator Crazy Kennar closed his restaurant, Instant Delicacies, in January 2023.

He cited that it was a wrong investment decision for him. The restaurant, which opened in May 2021, was popular among JKUAT students due to its location in Juja.

Moya David, the renowned TikTok star and dancer, closed his Kilimani spa, Moya City Spa, which launched in July 2022.

He decided to sell the spa because it did not perform well. Despite its popularity, Moya is selling the spa to focus on his new venture, Moya Surprise Ltd.

The spa offered a wide range of services including massages, facials, waxing, manicures, pedicures, and hairdressing.
