Kenya Power has announced that all Kenyans using prepaid meter tokens must update their devices before August 31.

If prepaid meters are not updated by this deadline, they will stop accepting tokens.

Kenya Power Managing Director Joseph Siror explained the update process on Wednesday. Customers will receive two codes from Kenya Power when they purchase tokens.

They will need to enter these codes into their meter following the instructions provided in the SMS before loading the new token.

In some cases, the company will proactively send the codes directly to customers who have not recently purchased tokens to remind them to update their meters.

Siror assured that the process is straightforward and free. Customers should ensure that all previously purchased tokens are loaded onto their meters before entering the reset and update codes.

The update will not affect any existing tokens already loaded into the meter.

This update targets 7.4 million prepaid meters and is being offered free of charge.
