Kenyan celebs and artists who are eyeing political seats in 2027

Some of the famous ones are former Journalist, Mohammed Ali, Jalang'o, and musician Jaguar

Several Kenyan artists and celebrities have shown interest in venturing into politics. Some joined and secured the seats, others failed while others are planning to join.

Some of the famous ones are former Journalist, Mohammed Ali, Jalang'o, and musician Jaguar 

Mohammed Ali was a news reporter, media personality, and investigative journalist for the famous 'Jicho Pevu'.

He swayed into politics in 2017 whereby he initially planned to run for office on an ODM ticket but lost the nominations. He then vied as an independent candidate for the Nyali MP seat and fortunately won the elections.

In the following elections held in 2022, he was elected as the Member of Parliament Nyali constituency under the UDA party ticket.

Charles Njagua Kanyi, professionally known as Jaguaris a Kenyan politician, singer, and philanthropist.

Jaguar who has extensive real estate interests, started making inroads in Starehe as early as 2013, while he remained non-committal on his political desires.

When asked numerously about his plans, especially when he started appearing besides the President and  Nairobi Senator Mike ‘Sonko’ Mbuvi, he played down the claims, stating that he was only playing his part in changing the society trough philanthropy.

He vied for the Starehe constituency MP seat in 2017 elections under the Jubilee party ticket and won against his contestants.

There also has been a famous public figure, Jalang'o who engaged in politics.

Felix Odiwuor popularly known as Jalang'o who was a radio presenter announced that he will be vying for the Lang'ata parliamentary seating in 2022.

He vied under the ODM political party and won the elections.

However he also said that he is not going to leave the entertainment industry because it's something he loves.

"I wish I would still come back and do my radio show and run to Parliament because being a leader shouldn't change what you do," he said.

Dickson Ngibuini, alias DNG, who was a Gospel musician did run for the Woodley-Kenyatta Golf Course MCA seat in 2022.

He said he did not vie in 2017 because, at the time, the ruling party had nothing to offer the youth.

DNG is well known for advocating for youth empowerment and job creation. He is now the MCA for Woodley-Kenyatta Golf Course.

Mummie Francie a TikTok sensation and media personality, whose real name is Francisca Mbaye, did disclose her intentions to contest for a political seat in 2027.

During a recent interview, Mummie expressed her aspiration to vie for the seat of Woman Representative in the National Assembly.

“I want to be a Woman Representative because I have much to share as a leader,” she said without elaborating further on her political aspirations.

Digital content creator Kennedy Kabugi popularly known as Kabugi on Monday, May 27, 2024, declared his interest in joining national politics.

Explaining that he is yet to decide which seat to go for in an interview, Kabugi insisted that he must be on the ballot in 2027.

“2027 I will be on the ballot watu wa Sijasettle bado (I haven’t decided yet on which seat) but I must be on the ballot,’ he affirmed.

Kevin Kioko, popularly known as Bahati is not new to politics, having unsuccessfully contested for the Mathare Constituency parliamentary seat on a Jubilee party ticket in 2022.

He came a distant third and dumped Jubilee for UDA shortly afterwards.

Bahati hopes to bounce back in 2027 by clinching a gubernatorial seat, a position that requires candidates to hold a valid degree certificate.

Eric Omondi, a comedian aka 'The President of Comedy', philanthropist and content creator also set his eyes in the political arena.

He recently hinted at venturing into politics, explaining that he will respond positively if the electorate from the constituency express a desire for his leadership.

“I have never talked about Lang’ata (but if it’s) Kenyans this is what I will tell them. The voice of the people is God’s voice,” he said.

Each elective seat in the country has a set of requirements that aspirants have to meet before joining the contest.
