But who is this dynamic artist?

Origins Born on March 29, 1981, in New Orleans, Louisiana, PJ Morton is the son of Bishop Paul Morton and Dr. Debra Brown Morton.

His passion for music began in his teenage years, heavily influenced by his father, who was also a musician. Morton graduated from St. Augustine High School and pursued a degree in marketing at Morehouse College, graduating in 2003.

Early Career and Maroon 5 Since 2012, Morton has been the keyboardist for the popular band Maroon 5. He initially joined the band as a touring member in 2010 and became an official member in 2012 when the original keyboardist went on hiatus.

Morton has infused his soulful R&B style into the pop genre, blending elements of pop, soul, funk, rock, gospel, and jazz fusion.

Solo Career Morton released his major label debut studio album, "New Orleans," with Young Money Records on May 14, 2013.

The album's lead single, "Only One," featuring Stevie Wonder, was nominated for Best R&B Song at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards in 2014.

In 2016, he launched his own record label, Morton Records, with the aim of creating "The New Orleans Motown." Morton has collaborated with industry giants like John Legend, Maroon 5, Stevie Wonder, India Arie, and Lil Wayne.

His latest album features collaborations with African artists, including Nigeria’s Fireboy DML, Fela Kuti, Asa, South African trumpeter Ndabo Zulu, and the Soweto Spiritual Singers.

Although Nairobi wasn’t initially on his African tour, his new album includes the track "All The Dreamers," which samples "Mwaki," a song by Kenyan artist Sofiya Nzau.

Personal Life

PJ Morton married Kortni Morton on December 25, 2008. The couple, who grew up attending the same church, began dating as adults. They have three children: Jakai, 19, P3, 13, and Peyton, 11.
