Electricity restored in 70% of affected areas countrywide - Kenya Power

Kenya Power has restored electricity in 70 per cent of areas affected by power outages across the country Friday morning.

The update comes hours after the power supply company reported the outage.

In a statement, Kenya Power said they restored power in areas including Meru, Isiolo, Muranga, Narok, Bomet, Trans Nzoia, Nandi, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot and Mombasa.

"We want to thank our customers for their patience as we work towards restoring normal service in the remaining areas," the statement read.

Kenya Power said they will restore electricity in the remaining areas in the afternoon.

"We will provide additional updates on the progress of the restoration exercise in subsequent alerts."

Power has also been restored in the North Rift, Western, Central Rift, Nairobi and Mt Kenya.

They are Nyeri, Embu, Kirinyaga, Nanyuki, Nakuru, Naivasha, Thika, Eldoret, Kericho, Kakamega, Siaya, Busia, Vihiga, Kisumu, Bungoma and Webuye.

Several parts of the country were hit by a major blackout on Friday morning.

According to Kenya Power, the outage affected the entire part of the country except the North Rift and Western regions.

Kenya Power has however not stated the cause.
