Actress Winfred Bwire Ndubi, known for her role as Dida in the popular TV series Sultana, has passed away, her family has confirmed.

Winnie, who had been battling cancer for a long time, died on Thursday morning at a hospital in Turkey where she was receiving treatment.

In announcing her death, her family expressed sincere gratitude to Kenyans for their support during her illness.

"It is with heavy hearts and humble acceptance of God's will that we announce the passing of Winfred Bwire Ndubi, who lost her battle with cancer on September 5, 2024, while receiving treatment in Turkey," the family's statement read.

The statement continued, "We thank you all for your tremendous support, prayers, and generosity during her treatment. We will share more details at the appropriate time. God bless you all."

Several months ago, Winnie sought public assistance to raise Kshs 7 million for her cancer treatment abroad.

Ndubi had been fighting metastatic breast cancer for two years and was desperate for specialized treatment overseas to save her life.

Through her Instagram page, the actress had appealed for help, stating:

"Dear Friends, it is my heartfelt prayer that your Christmas season goes well. I am reaching out to you, seeking help to obtain further treatment abroad that is needed to save my life šŸ˜Š.

"Isnā€™t it funny? How expensive is life? One moment you are living beautifully, and the next, you are facing demons you never imagined you would encounter in your entire life. The good thing is we never have to face them alone. All we need to do is let people join the process. It takes a village to do anything at all. Anyway, before I tire you with my long post ā˜ŗļø, I am coming to the only village I know, please take a moment to stand with me in this healing journey by contributing anything you can to help me reach the required target of 7 million Ksh. Your support will be greatly appreciated. God bless you. Congratulations," the actress shared.

A few weeks prior, Winnie had requested additional help of 5 million Ksh to seek specialized treatment abroad.

Her cancer began with symptoms of a lump under the armpit during menstruation.

She visited a doctor who informed her that she had a generalized infection and was given anti-inflammatory medication for lymph nodes.

Further examination revealed she had ductal carcinoma in situ, a rare type of cancer involving abnormal cells in the milk ducts of the breast.
