Bayern Munich veteran Thomas Müller has revealed that he is ready to continue serving the club despite his advancing age.

As a leader on the field and one of the greatest legends in Bayern Munich's history, having scored two crucial goals in Bayern's DFB Pokal victory against SSV Ulm, he might be forgiven for feeling slightly frustrated after being benched by new head coach Vincent Kompany for the next two games.

After coming off the bench against SC Freiburg and breaking his record by making his 710th appearance and scoring a crucial goal, Florian Plettenberg caught Thomas Müller’s comments as the conversation shifted from his contract discussions, which expire in 2025, to his reduced role in the team:

"Let’s see what happens. Only the body ages. I’m fighting against that. It's not about me or the length of the contract. Everything is straightforward."

"I’m trying to show the coach that I am also an option for the starting lineup. But in [Kompany’s] defensive lineup, I must say that we have many good options in the attack."

Müller concluded his sentence with a smile, knowing that he is gradually slowing down and that there are several very talented young players vying for his spot on the team.

But as he showed today, he can still contribute to the team.
