US rapper Fatman Scoop, born Isaac Freeman III, has tragically passed away at the age of 53 after collapsing during a concert in Connecticut on Friday.
The incident occurred halfway through his performance at Town Center Park in Hamden. Following the collapse, the rapper was rushed to a local hospital by ambulance.
Unfortunately, despite medical efforts, his death was confirmed by his booking agency, MN2S, in a statement to the BBC.
The agency highlighted his lasting influence on the music industry, stating that his "legacy will live on through his timeless music."
Fatman Scoop was renowned for his distinctive voice and dynamic stage presence, qualities that endeared him to fans worldwide.
His family remembered him as a "radiant soul" who brought joy and strength to those around him, describing him as not only a talented performer but also a beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend.
Throughout his career, Fatman Scoop made significant contributions to the hip-hop scene, particularly in New York City during the 1990s.
He collaborated on numerous hit songs, including the Grammy-winning "Lose Control" by Missy Elliott and "It’s Like That" by Mariah Carey. His track "Be Faithful," initially released in 1999, gained international acclaim in 2003, topping charts in Ireland and the UK.
In addition to his music career, Fatman Scoop appeared on television, including the UK series "Chancers" and "Celebrity Big Brother 16: UK vs USA."
His sudden passing has left a profound impact on the music community. His tour manager, DJ Pure Cold, expressed deep sorrow, acknowledging the profound influence Scoop had on his life and career.
The UK’s Reminisce Festival, where Scoop was scheduled to perform in September, mourned his loss, recognizing him as a cherished member of their community.
