Jermaine Jenas has expressed deep regret after being dismissed from his role as a BBC presenter, admitting to The Sun that he feels "ashamed" and has "let everybody down."

He confessed to sending "inappropriate messages" to two colleagues on The One Show but emphasized that he "did nothing illegal" and that the messages were exchanged between "two consenting adults."

The former host of Match of the Day and The One Show had his contract terminated this week following allegations of inappropriate messaging. The BBC has not released further details regarding the accusations.

Jenas acknowledged that the texts were a "huge error of judgement" for which he is "deeply sorry," clarifying that he is "not a sex pest."

The 41-year-old, who is married with four children, revealed that he is undergoing therapy and admitted he "fell below the standards" expected by the BBC.

"I feel so ashamed. I’ve let everybody down—my colleagues, my friends, and most importantly, my family," Jenas said.

The issue was brought to the BBC's attention several weeks ago, and the corporation confirmed his departure on Thursday.

A BBC spokesperson stated: "We can confirm Jermaine Jenas is no longer part of our presenting line-up."

Jenas said he was informed of his dismissal during a video call on Monday while on a family holiday, just five days after being told of the allegations by the BBC.

In a candid and emotional interview with The Sun, Jenas insisted that "nothing physical ever happened" but admitted that he considers his actions "cheating."

"I was given an incredible opportunity, and it’s on me that I feel I have lost everything right now. I feel like people are judging me, and that I am the number one target in the country," he said.

Jenas apologized to "everyone, especially the women" involved and expressed remorse for the distress he caused. He also denied sending any explicit pictures or videos, according to The Sun.

Jenas was presenting on talkSport Drive when news of his BBC dismissal broke on Thursday. He declined to comment on the reasons for his dismissal, stating that he was "speaking to lawyers."

On the same day, his profile was removed from his agent's website. In a statement, talkSport announced: "There are no plans for Jermaine to broadcast as a presenter on talkSport in the immediate future."

He currently works as a pundit and co-commentator for TNT Sports and also fronts their Formula E racing coverage.

A Formula E spokesperson said that Jenas was part of the presenting team for season 10, which ended in July, and that decisions regarding the next season's line-up would be made "in due course," taking into account the "high standards" expected at Formula E.

TNT has not commented on his future with the broadcaster, and Jenas's agency, MC Saatchi, no longer represents him, with his profile on their site now showing a "page not found" notice.
