Media personalities Maina Kageni and Mwalimu King’ang’i have weighed in after Jamaica Dancehall artist Vybz Kartel was released from prison after 13 years.

Kartel had been sentenced to life imprisonment but the ruling was overturned by the Court of Appeal in Jamaica based on several reasons.

The court of appeal ruled unanimously to free Kartel and his co-accused, Shawn ‘Storm Storm’ Campbell’ Andre St John, and Kahira Jones.

The decision was influenced by several factors, including the unavailability of witnesses and trial exhibits, as well as Kartel’s declining health.

The court found that the prosecution did not effectively account for the availability of its witnesses and that several trial exhibits were either unavailable or unaccounted for.

On the morning show, Maina and Mwalimu highlighted the influence Vybz Kartel has heard in the music industry despite being behind bars for 13 years.

“So you guys have not slept because Vybz Kartel has been released? Mwalimu started the conversation.

Maina joined saying; “That is a real superstar. He is like Buju Banton. When he was also released from prison, it was a movement,”.

Mwalimu went on to state that the day Vybz decided to do a concert he would attract a huge crowd.

“The day he will do a concert, si atakuwa na watu wengi sana. You know he is the one who has influenced this music we call Gengetone. He gave musicians to sing whatever they want and it becomes a hit,”.

Kageni interjected saying; “Vybz Kartel is a freeman and Mwalimu wants him to start doing proper songs,”.
