Former US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama have officially endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to be the Democratic presidential nominee.

The two called Kamala to make their endorsement official and assure her of their full support.

In a statement on X, Obama said Kamala will make a fantastic president.

He said that they will do everything to make sure she wins the Presidency in November.

"Earlier this week, Michelle and I called our friend @KamalaHarris. We told her we think she’ll make a fantastic President of the United States, and that she has our full support. At this critical moment for our country, we’re going to do everything we can to make sure she wins in November. We hope you’ll join us," Obama said.

Michelle on her part said they have Kamala Harris' back.

"I’m so proud of my girl, Kamala. Barack and I are so excited to endorse her as the Democratic nominee because of her positivity, sense of humor, and ability to bring light and hope to people all across the country. We’ve got your back, @KamalaHarris!"

In response to the endorsement, Kamala said it means a lot to her.

She went on say that she also looks forward to hitting the campaign trail with the Obamas.

Kamala thanked the two for the support and friendship they have offered her over the years.

"This means so much to me. I am looking forward to doing this with the two of you. Doug and I both and getting out there, being on the road.

"Most of all I just want to tell you that the words you have spoken and the friendship you have given over all these years mean more than I can express. Thank you so much and we're going to have fun with this too."
