On Friday, July 12, President William Ruto accepted the resignation of Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome and appointed Douglas Kiricho Kanja as the acting Inspector General.

A government gazette notice from the State House indicated that this appointment is pending approval from Parliament.

Douglas Kanja has had an exceptional career in the National Police Service, marked by several key positions and significant achievements.

His extensive experience and leadership in various roles positioned him well for his new role as Inspector General.

Before his current appointment, Kanja served as the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the National Police Service.

In this role, he played a crucial part in overseeing police operations and ensuring efficient management of the force.

In addition to his role as DIG, Kanja has served as a Commissioner in the National Police Service Commission.

Starting in 2018, Kanja served as the Commandant of the General Service Unit (GSU). Under his leadership, the GSU played a key role in maintaining public order, responding to emergencies, and conducting high-risk operations.
