'Fake' Kotex says about Karen Nyamu statement

The politician has recently been on the spot over her stance on sanitary towels

Recently, Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu faced backlash from Kenyans for her comments on the Finance Bill 2024, especially regarding taxes on sanitary pads.

Her statement that she uses tampons instead of pads sparked outrage among Kenyans, who expected her, as a female leader, to support girls' access to hygiene products.

On June 30th, Karen Nyamu took to Instagram to announce a collaboration between her foundation and Kotex Kenya, a female hygiene manufacturing company.

She shared that they are negotiating to supply free tampons to schools in slum areas.

"Regarding this matter, my foundation has been in talks with @kotexkenya to secure a favorable deal to provide free tampons to schools, particularly in slum areas. I'm very excited about this initiative."

Immediately following Karen Nyamu's claim of a partnership to provide free tampons to schools in slums, Kotex Kenya swiftly responded, dismissing her statement as false.

They took to their Instagram page to clarify that no discussions or agreements had occurred with Karen Nyamu:

"Kotex unequivocally confirms that no discussions or conversations have taken place with Karen Nyamu. Any claims of a potential partnership involving Kotex are entirely false."

Karen responded to Kotex's denial by challenging their claim and revealing that her representatives had visited their offices recently.

She questioned Kotex, saying, "So what exactly is fake? You had Enos and Cindy in your offices this week, awaiting communications on the best discount you will give us."

Karen also stressed the importance of raising awareness about tampons, noting misconceptions in the comment section.
