Butita speaks on SPM crew presence at Statehouse

Rumours spread online suggesting that a group of young people, who claimed to represent Gen Z and whom President Ruto met after his interview at State House, were being led by SPM Buzz, a platform owned by Butita.

Over the past few weeks, Eddie Butita has faced criticism for allegedly not siding with the people against the Finance Bill, prompting him to clarify his presence at State House on Sunday.

Rumours spread online suggesting that a group of young people, who claimed to represent Gen Z and whom President Ruto met after his interview at State House, were being led by SPM Buzz, a platform owned by Butita.

This caused outrage among netizens.

Butita addressed the issue on his social media, stating that SPM Buzz was one of the digital media outlets invited to interview President Ruto and that it was simply an interview like any other.

"This is an interview just like the rest. These are different journalists from various digital media outlets. Is there a problem? Hakuna! You can't bring down youths in the name of fighting for youths. Double speak at its peak. I see no issue with digital media entities conducting interviews just like mainstream outlets," he said.

He stressed that there was no problem with digital media platforms conducting interviews similar to mainstream outlets.

The recent backlash over his perceived stance has led to the disappearance of his YouTube channel, which had at least 300K subscribers, and it is rumored to have been deactivated.
