A Kenyan woman has criticized the church for its silence as the youth protest against the Finance Bill, 2024.

In an emotional address to congregants, she tearfully condemned the church for remaining passive while the youth express their concerns about the government’s proposed tax measures.

“The church should not be quiet. It is not just about Gen Zs; it is about our lives, it is about all of us,” she said.

The woman urged churches to set up tents on the streets to provide water for protesting youth and offer first aid to those who may get injured.

“Let us get serious, fellow Christians. Why don’t we have placards reading ‘Justice is the foundation of His Throne?’ Why don’t we write scriptures on the placards and protest with them?” she asked.

She also addressed complaints about the vulgar placards seen at the protests.

“Yes, there were some unholy placards out there, but where were the Christian placards? We are the church, and we are the people who voted in this government,” she said.

She lamented that the church leadership has “not talked about the Finance Bill, 2024, anywhere.”

“When people vent on social media, we are just quiet. We are the quiet generation. I will be on the streets on Tuesday, and I pray that I will be there with my fellow Christians. Let us take praise and worship to the streets.

"Carry those prayers to the streets," she said. "We’re not winning this on our knees; we’ll be on our knees in the streets."
