At least seven people lost their lives on Saturday evening after a lorry veered off the road and struck a motorcycle and pedestrians in the Timau area of Meru County.

Police reported that several others sustained injuries and were admitted to the hospital.

Authorities stated that the lorry, which was transporting construction blocks from Meru towards Timau, lost control around 6:20 pm.

The fatalities included four men, two women, and a girl, as well as the motorcycle rider, who was pronounced dead upon arrival at Timau Sub-County Hospital.

Buuri Sub-County Police Commander Laura Imbacha reported that several injured individuals were taken to medical facilities in Timau and Nanyuki towns.

"The lorry collided with the motorcycle, which was then removed from the scene to an unknown location. It subsequently knocked down several pedestrians, rolled multiple times, and ended up in a ditch," the police reported.
