Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru was honored as the Political Trailblazer of the Year at the East African Women of Excellence Awards.

This accolade recognized her outstanding leadership achievements and her role as a pioneer for women in politics.

The awards gala, held in Nairobi, celebrated Waiguru for her significant contributions to political change in Kenya and her efforts to inspire and empower women to pursue leadership roles.

Governor Waiguru was nominated alongside notable leaders such as Governors Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay) and Wavinya Ndeti (Machakos), and MPs Neisula Lesuuda, Gladys Boss, Esther Passaris, and Beatrice Elachi.

In her acceptance speech, Waiguru expressed gratitude to the organizers and the Kenyan public for their support and confidence in her leadership.

She stressed the importance of each individual's contributions, regardless of scale, in tackling societal challenges.

Waiguru called for collective action and individual commitment to drive progress and equality.

She highlighted the need for continued efforts to address issues hindering women's advancement, particularly in reproductive health.

Waiguru referenced the death of Njambi Koikai, an advocate for endometriosis awareness, as a stark reminder of the need for better reproductive healthcare policies, increased funding, and comprehensive support for women’s health.

Christ Is the Answer Ministries (CITAM) Deputy Bishop Rev. Justus Mugambi praised the awards for recognizing top women leaders in corporate and business sectors across East Africa.

He noted that these inaugural awards set a precedent for valuing women’s accomplishments and inspiring future generations to strive for excellence.

During the event, other notable winners included Cabinet Secretary for Trade and Investment Rebecca Miano, who was named Public Service Leader of the Year, Njeri Njomo as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Year, Pastor Esther Obasi-Ike as Woman of Impact, and Sarah Kabu as Entrepreneur of the Year.

Rev. Mugambi affirmed CITAM's commitment to supporting, recognizing, and empowering women to take on more leadership roles and contribute to a better world.
