A woman who had gone missing was found swallowed whole by a large python after locals cut open the snake's stomach.

According to Metro UK, Farida, a 50-year-old mother of four, disappeared while walking through the forest to sell food at a market near her home in Kalempang village, Indonesia, on June 6.

The python sank its teeth into her leg, wrapped around her body, and constricted her before swallowing her head first.

Farida's husband, Noni, 55, grew worried when she hadn't returned home by nightfall and alerted other villagers, who began searching.

They found a 20-foot-long python coiled in a bush the next day, with a large bulge in its stomach.

The snake's massive head can be seen in video footage from the scene, with its tongue flicking out of its mouth.

Fearing the worst, the grieving husband and several villagers cut open the thick skin with a machete.

Farida was found inside the snake's stomach, covered in mucus.

She was removed and taken for a religious burial in the Pitu Riawa district of Sidrap Regency, South Sulawesi province.

Noni said, "I'm very sorry that I let my wife go alone. If I had been with her that day, the snake would not have dared to attack her."

"I regret the suffering she went through. Apologies to our family."

Indonesia has a large population of massive pythons thriving in its vast, dense forests.

Unlike neighboring Southeast Asian countries, urban development has not hindered their growth.

The last recorded case of a human being eaten by a python was in 2022, also in Indonesia.
