High School teacher commits suicide after losing Sh50K through gambling

A Chemistry and Maths teacher at Nyamira Boys High School, Kevin Omwenga, committed suicide after losing at least KSh50,000 on the betting platform, Aviator.

When he failed to report to work on Wednesday and his phone also remained unanswered, they went on a hunt of searching for him.

On Thursday morning, his colleagues decided to check on him at his house. They found his door locked from inside, where his phone also rang but was not being picked up.

It is also said that his wife was not in at the time of the incident as she had recently delivered and travelled upcountry, leaving Omwenga alone in their rented house.

Omwenga's body was then found hanging from the roof of his house.

It is reported that those close to him say he had hoped to multiply the money to settle multiple debts.

He had taught at Nyamira Boys for at least four years and was employed by the school's Board of Management.
