She is poised to succeed her longtime ally, outgoing President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, whose social welfare programs, in collaboration with Claudia, significantly reduced poverty rates in Mexico, boosting their leftist Morena party's popularity in the polls.

During her undergraduate studies at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), she actively participated in student politics, advocating against the privatization of public education.

Claudia's political career began in 2000 when she was appointed as the environment secretary of Mexico City by Obrador, who was then the head of the city’s government. She held this position until 2006.

Returning to politics in 2015, she made history by becoming the first woman elected head of the Tlalpan district of Mexico City, serving until 2017.

The following year, she was elected head of the entire city government, once again marking a significant milestone as the first woman to hold this position.

Claudia later stepped down to launch her presidential campaign for the 2024 elections, aiming to lead Mexico into a new era of progress and prosperity.
