Man dies after jumping from building to escape fire

He missed his target and fell to the ground floor.

The fire broke out on the first floor of an apartment along North View Road over the weekend, blocking access for those on the upper floors.

Smoke from the fire spread upwards, causing panic among the residents. According to police, the residents were trapped on the upper floors during the 3 am incident.

A man on the balcony of his fourth-floor room attempted to jump to a balcony about three meters below his own in an effort to escape the fire.

Unfortunately, he missed his target, hit the wall of the balcony, and fell to the ground floor. He landed headfirst and died on the spot.

Property of unknown value was destroyed before a fire engine arrived to help contain the blaze. Police are still investigating the cause of the fire. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Elsewhere in Nairobi, a 35-year-old man collapsed and died in his house in the Parkroad area.

The body of Moses Macharia, a casual electrician, was discovered in his room over the weekend.

He had a history of chest problems and chronic coughs, according to his roommate. Police reported that there were blood stains and vomit at the scene where the body was found.

In another incident, a Ugandan national was found dead at the Shauri Moyo Shopping Centre, suspected to be a murder victim.

The body of 23-year-old Milton Tesan was found with head injuries. The motive and perpetrators of the murder are still unknown.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and further investigations.

In Malindi, the decomposed body of a man was found on the banks of the Galana River within the Paziani sub-location.

Police suspect he was a victim of recent floods that have claimed up to 300 lives and displaced thousands.

The body was trapped in silt and discovered amid ongoing flood recovery efforts. There are fears of disease outbreaks due to the floods, and efforts are being made to address the situation.
