Police are holding a 25-year-old university student in connection with the murder of 19-year-old Faith Musembi, a student at Mount Kenya University.

The suspect was arrested in Nairobi after preliminary investigations indicated that he killed the student on allegations of infidelity.

Thika Police Commander Lawrence Muchangi said the suspect is currently detained for questioning.

He did not disclose much about how the incident occurred.

The deceased's family had suspected the involvement of the suspect in Faith's murder.

A post-mortem examination conducted at Thika General Kago's Residence revealed that she died due to excessive bleeding.

The report indicated that she had blood in her uterus caused by a sudden placental abruption (the placenta had detached, causing excessive bleeding).

Her body was discovered by her father, Boniface Musembi, in her rented room in Pilot Estate area within the Hospital Ward in Thika.

He told reporters on Friday that they received a call on Wednesday from an unknown person demanding a ransom of Ksh20,000 for the release of their daughter.

The caller was using the deceased's phone. Musembi said his wife quickly sent the money for the safety of their daughter as he left for Thika to follow up on the matter.

He said he went to the house where his daughter was living but found it locked.
