US-based Kenyan content creator Elsa Majimbo has shared details of a recent incident where her bank accounts were frozen.

The 22-year-old comedian explained that she decided to treat herself by indulging in shopping at high-end stores to distract herself from negative experiences.

However, after making purchases from various establishments, her bank flagged her transactions as suspicious, resulting in her accounts being locked.

"People are curious about how my bank accounts were frozen and how I was accused of fraud.

Two weeks ago, I woke up, and I thought to myself, today I am going to shop. I am going to shop until I drop," she recounted.

Majimbo recalled how a friend, going through a tough time, had gone to Milan to shop as a coping mechanism.

This inspired her to pamper herself and forget about her own troubles. "I went everywhere you can think of; I went to Versace, I went to Zara, I went to Victoria's Secret, you name it, I was there. And I wasn't joking," she emphasised.

As she continued her spree, Majimbo encountered a moment where her transaction didn't go through, prompting her to contact the bank.

Although they resolved the issue temporarily, her account was subsequently locked when she attempted to make another purchase.

Despite trying different bank cards, she faced the same problem. "They informed me that the activity on my card required verification to ensure it was indeed me making the purchases," she explained.

Social media users weighed in on Majimbo's experience:

  • @manjo expressed, "God of Elsa Majimbo, please locate me."
  • @scents remarked, "Excuse me, I'm just a rich girl."
  • @Aishwarya lamented, "If only I could shop my troubles away without going broke."
