Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu has mourned their Group Chief Executive Herbert Wigwe who died in a tragic plane crash.
Wigwe lost his life alongside his wife, son and the former Group Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc Abimbola Ogunbanjo.
Through his X account, Tinubu said he was shocked and deeply distressed by the news.
"Their passing is an overwhelming tragedy that is shocking beyond comprehension. I extend my condolences to the Wigwe and Ogunbanjo families, the business community, and all those impacted by this harrowing incident," he said.
"I pray for the peaceful repose of the departed and ask God Almighty to comfort the multitude of Nigerians who are grieving and the families of the deceased at this deeply agonizing moment."
Access Bank confirmed the death of their CEO on Sunday after the tragic plane crash took place on Friday night.
The bank described Wigwe as a visionary leader whose passion and unwavering commitment to excellence transformed Access into a global powerhouse.
"With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of the Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings Herbert Wigwe. Herbert's visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to social impact initiatives have left an indelible mark on access holding and the communities we serve. His legacy will never be forgotten," the bank said.
They said that despite his death, the impact he had will forever be felt and his legacy of excellence and compassion will continue.
The crash is said to have occurred some miles from Las Vegas.
According to The Guardian, Wigwe and his family were expected to attend the Super Bowl American football.
The event was taking place on Sunday in Las Vegas.
"The helicopter at the centre of the deadly crash departed about 8.45pm Friday from Palm Springs airport in California en route to Boulder City, Nevada, about 26 miles (41km) south-east of Las Vegas, which on Sunday is hosting this year’s Super Bowl. The aircraft was reportedly an Airbus Helicopters EC-130," the Guardian reported
