Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta surprised the faithful at a church in Ruiru, Kiambu County, by unexpectedly giving them a Sh1 million Christmas donation.

Even though Uhuru wasn't in the JCM Church, he called the pastor and asked to speak to the congregation over the loudspeaker.

The former president claimed he had heard from someone that the church was hosting a party for people who are struggling to make ends meet.

“I told him I could not abandon our people and whatever he is doing, I will top him up. I have told him I will extend Sh1 million so that he can buy unga for more people. I wish you happy holidays to you all and your families and may God solve the problems we are going through,” Uhuru said amid cheers from the worshipers.

Next year, he pledged to make time for religious worship.

The donation is being made just before Christmas, when officials are getting together with the local populace.

Additionally, at his Sugoi residence in Uasin Gishu County, President William Ruto has donated Christmas gifts to the residents.

Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto greeted neighbours at their rural residence on Friday in a joyous show of friendliness.

Residents lined up for a long time, beaming, to collect packets containing rice, cooking oil, and wheat flour.
