Police in India have arrested a man who allegedly beheaded his wife after getting angry over a late morning tea.

According to the Indian media, the terrible incident happened on December 19 in a village in the north of India, in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

Police said the man, identified only as Dharamveer, 52, asked for his morning tea twice when he woke up and was upset that his wife, Ms Sundari, 50, had informed him that it would take some time to be ready.

"He got angry when his wife told him it would take 10 more minutes for the tea to be ready and kicked the kitchen utensils," Superintendent of Police Vivek Yadav told the Times of India.

Following this, a heated argument broke out and Mr. Dharamveer, who is a daily wage laborer, ran to grab a sword from another part of the house and cut Ms Sundari's head from behind while she was still making tea.

The couple's four children were startled from their sleep and tried to save their mother, but Dharamveer allegedly swung a sword at them as well and made them return to their room immediately.

It is reported that the neighbors who heard the commotion rushed to the house and found Mrs. Sundari dead surrounded by a pool of blood.

They immediately called the police, who found Dharamveer crying next to his wife's body.

The suspect was arrested immediately while Ms. Sundari's body was taken to the hospital for an autopsy.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Gyan Prakash Rai confirmed the incident saying, “Dharamveer and Sundari fought over making tea.

Then he took out a sharp weapon and attacked her in the neck from behind, which caused her death on the spot."

The couple's son said his father was a heavy tea drinker, drinking five to six cups of the drink a day, and he often argued with his wife.

"If my mother refused to make tea multiple times or took more time than expected, he would yell at her," a youth identified as 'Askari' told the Times of India.

Dharamveer was arrested and produced before the court while his wife's body was subjected to a postmortem.
