According to the Kenya National Highways Authority, the Mbogolo bridge's restoration work is now complete.

Floods on the Mombasa side wrecked the approach road, cutting off the route completely.

On Sunday morning, though, Kenha announced that traffic had resumed and the road segment was now open.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority informs the public that restoration works are complete at the Mbogolo Bridge along the Mtwapa - Kilifi (A7) Road and that the road section is now open to traffic," they said.

Kenha further appreciated the public for their cooperation and understanding during the restoration process.

"Your safety remains our priority."

The public was given the authority's word on Saturday that repairs to the Mbogolo bridge would soon start.

Within the following twenty-four hours, they had projected the area's traffic flow upon opening.

They promised to do this by working on the repairs through the night.

"Kenha staff are working overnight so as to open the road to traffic tomorrow. The Authority urges motorists to exercise patience while restoration works are underway,"Kenha said.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority hereby notifies the public that water levels have slightly subsided at the Mbogolo Bridge. Kenha has started works to restore in earnest with backfilling of the washout sections. The authority estimates to open flow of traffic within 24 hours."

This happened when violent floods on Saturday morning destroyed a portion of the Mbogolo bridge, rendering the Mombasa-Malindi highway inaccessible.

Cars were compelled to drop off passengers close to the bridge so that people could cross another bridge that is still under construction on foot.

KeNHA had declared the route closed and issued a traffic caution.

A few kilometres beyond Kilifi town, in Mtondia, another portion of the highway was impassable due to flooding.
