Based on US sources, Matthew Perry's co-stars from Friends, David Schwimmer, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, and Lisa Kudrow, were present for his funeral, which is believed to have happened in Los Angeles on Friday.

28 October: Perry was discovered dead in his Los Angeles home's hot tub. The post-mortem investigation yielded no clear results, and toxicology test results are pending for authorities to review.

According to Marta Kauffman, co-creator of Friends, when she last spoke with him two weeks ago, he was "in a really good place, which is why this seems so unfair".

She stated on NBC's Today programme that "he wanted to help other addicts and it gave him purpose."

According to David Crane, one of the co-creators of Friends, aiding other addicts "absolutely became his purpose, his reason for being".

In 2012, Perry converted his $10 million Malibu beach house into Perry House, a sober living facility for men. The following year, the White House honoured the endeavour with an award.

Two years later, he sold it, but he insisted that helping addicts in recovery remained his first priority.

Others paying tribute in recent days have included fellow actor Hank Azaria, who said Perry had been like a "brother" and helped him stop drinking.

In a video posted on Instagram, he said: "The night I went into AA [Alcoholics Anonymous], Matthew brought me in.

"The whole first year I was sober, we went to meetings together and he was such a great... I got to tell him this. As a sober person he was so caring and giving and wise and he totally helped me get sober."

In a joint statement released on Monday, Perry's five Friends co-stars said they were "all so utterly devastated" by the news of his death.
