Comedian Eric Omondi has come to the rescue of a street vendor who was allegedly harassed and manhandled by County Askaris.

On Wednesday, Omondi said that he was looking for the lady identified as Quinter Adhiambo to offer a helping hand after her stock was confiscated and destroyed by county Askaris.

He managed to get hold of her and organized an online fundraiser where well-wishers donated over Sh600,000 for her.

The funnyman mentioned that he was out to help Quinter stabilize her life and even move away from the streets by establishing a bigger business.

“Last night we managed to raise Ksh 556K in 3 hours for Quinter after City Council Disgracefully kicked and threw her stock to the ground. What the devil meant to break her God used to lift her. God wins. We are going to change her life totally Keep sending her Money to her Number," Omondi said.

Later, the comedian appreciated Kenyans for standing with Quinter – asking them to push the limits to at least Sh1,000,000.

“Thank you guys! Thank you to all the guys who contributed. We have changed this girl’s life forever!!! We are at 600, let's push it to even Sh1 million,”.

Omondi has several fundraised for needy Kenyans online, an act that has won many hearts.

On Wednesday night, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja condemned how City Askaris manhandled street vendors and confiscated their tools of trade.

The governor said in a statement the incident was "most unfortunate".

"This is not the way to treat Nairobians as we have continually implored our officers to treat Nairobians with Dignity. We will take disciplinary action," Sakaja warned.

The governor went ahead to compensate all the informal traders who had been affected by the Wednesday incident. He stated that his administration has had a cordial relationship with informal traders for a year but lately, there have been unfortunate incidences that seek to sabotage that.

"I have ordered the immediate release of all confiscated items, apologised to the traders, and personally compensated each of them to the tune of 10,000 shillings each," he said.
