An 11-year-old boy from Ndoroto village in Naivasha took his own life in his house under mysterious circumstances, leaving his family in despair.
The parents discovered the body of the child, a sixth-grader at the nearby Ndoroto Primary School, hanging in one of the rooms.
The number of young people committing suicide in the lakeside town of Kayole estate was on the rise early in the year when a 12-year-old girl hanged herself in her parents' house.
In the most recent occurrence, a relative found the child's death on Sunday night before calling the police.
Peterson Kuria, a community elder, said that the youngster was in high spirits earlier in the day but that the cause of death is yet unknown.
He added that the youngster was expected to report to school on Monday morning and that his parents were still working through the event.
“The parents who returned from church on Sunday afternoon could not locate the boy only for one of the family members to stumble on the body in the store,” he said.
