Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has criticized Kenyans who have criticized him following his interview with a local blog on Monday where he went off topic.

In his statement on Tuesday morning, Salasya noted that he was elected to represent his constituency and not to discuss climate change.

The first-term member of parliament accused all those who criticize him and asked them to also run for elected positions to be like him.

"All those idiots are criticizing me on Twitter for the way I answered on #spm about #climatechange.

They should go to home with their kizungu. They should vote and be members of parliament in their areas. Politics is local. They should go with their kizungu. I was not elected to talk about climate change, listen to me," Salasya answered loudly.

In another post, the Member of Parliament for Mumias East updated his followers that he is currently in Kisumu with other MPs to discuss issues related to sugar.

"I don't know about #climate, let alone scientists and experts. People should follow the instructions given on #kicc," he said.

The young MP has been heavily criticized in the past few hours for his poor understanding of climate change.

In a video that reached Classic105, the member of parliament was asked how he fights climate change and if he has a plan to help the country deal with climate change, but he could not give a clear answer.

Kenyans who saw the video online criticized him, saying that a person of his stature should be knowledgeable about the subject.

Salasya was among the leaders selected to attend the Climate Conference in Africa at KICC.
