Samson Cherargei, the Nandi senator, has proposed that Kenya Power pay damages for losses brought on by power outages.

The senator noted in a statement on Saturday that Kenya Power should be held accountable because the losses from power disruptions are so great.

"The KPLC must quantify and compensate for the loss of lives and businesses lost during the massive blackout across the country," Cherargei said.

The UDA Senator went on to say that Kenya should be extremely well-prepared to handle the disaster.

This, according to him, should be done particularly in places that are recognised as crucial national infrastructure, like hospitals and airports.

Cherargei questioned why the JKIA's backup generators were not functioning.

Kenya lost power on Friday in a number of locations, including the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

Even though the airport and other areas of the Nairobi Metropolitan region received power again, the majority of the area remained in the dark.

The darkness has caused a commotion among Kenyans.

The nationwide power outage that has afflicted several areas of the nation continued to have a particularly negative impact on business owners.

Businesses that depend on power to maintain their operations have consequently continued to record losses.

On Friday night, JKIA passengers were left detained in the dark for at least two hours.

The power loss also had an impact on Nairobi, the Rift Valley, Mount Kenya, and Western Kenya.
