Former Manchester United player Mason Greenwood made a statement a few hours after the club announced the difficult decision to terminate his contract.

Mason Greenwood found himself in trouble last year over disturbing photos of his gf went viral.

In February this year, however, the Court cleared Greenwood of all charges after finding that there was not enough evidence to convict him.

However, he could not be reinstated in the Red Devils squad following strong objections from fans of the team, which led United's management to initiate their own internal investigation to determine effective measures to take.

After an investigation that lasted several months, on Monday afternoon United announced that they had agreed to terminate Greenwood's contract and allow him to leave their team to develop elsewhere away from Old Trafford.

"Today, Mason has clearly admitted that he made mistakes that he will blame himself for. All those involved, including Mason, have realized that there is difficulty for him to be able to continue his career in the Manchester United club.

Therefore it has been reached by mutual decision that it is better for him to continue his career away from Old Trafford," part of the club's statement read.

Greenwood, for his part, admitted that it has really been a very difficult time and said that he thought it would be good for him to stop being at United because there have been emotions outside the stadium pushing for his dismissal.

"I want to start by saying that I know people will judge me for what they have seen on social networks and I know many will think badly of me.

I am learning to accept my responsibilities and be a good role model in the football profession, and I have also focused on the greater responsibility of being a good father and also a good husband," Greenwood began in his letter.

"Today's decision has been one of many solutions between Manchester United, my family and me. The best decision for all of us is for me to continue my football away from Old Trafford, a place where my appearance will not harm the club," Greenwood continued about United a club which he joined at the age of 7.

However, soccer fans on the internet felt that United's decision to end the youngster's contract was motivated by racism considering that the youngster has African ancestry.

Others felt that the young man deserved to be given second place in the team, especially after the court acquitted him. Here are the comments of some fans.

"I am also leaving this club given that they do not give someone a second chance to return. People make mistakes, this one deserved forgiveness," Holli Trigga said.

"I have been a United fan for 18 years and it seems that this is the worst decision. I believed in this young man, I think Man U are theoretically chasing us fans, they don't seem to have our interests at heart, it's wrong," Eric Eru shouted.

"By all indications, this decision may have been motivated by racism, you are expelling him because he is half African," said another.
