According to Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai, brothels have multiplied in residential neighbourhoods and should be segregated on their own estates.

The MCA mentioned on Sunday that Kilimani and his district both had a lot of brothels.

"We need to create an estate just for these many brothels opened deep in residential estates. We have so many brothels in Kilimani and Kileleshwa," he said.

Alai claimed that occasionally, the brothels in the neighbourhood bother the locals.

Even though he acknowledged that people needed entertainment venues, he argued that they should be built more methodically rather than randomly.

"We need sanity in residential areas. Yes, we need the sin side sometimes but shouldn’t be the norm. Make it discreet and interesting. It can’t be all over as it is," the MCA said.

The MCA has, however, bemoaned the annoyance created by entertainment venues close to residential areas before.

After the Nairobi county government attempted to cancel the operation licences of nightclubs located close to residential areas in late November of last year, Alai posted on Twitter to celebrate.

According to City Hall, licences for businesses in residential zones were revoked in response to public outcry.

It stated that going forward, only nightclubs in the Central Business District would be granted a licence.

Alai, who had been at the forefront of criticising the clubs for being a nuisance in neighbourhoods due to noise pollution, praised the decision.

"We are winning this war. We don’t start a war we can’t win. Thank you Governor Johnson Sakaja," he said in a statement.
