Maurice Ogeta, the bodyguard of ODM Party leader Raila Odinga, has been released after being detained by police for more than three days.

Philip Etale, ODM's director of communication, confirmed his release.

He was released at around 1 am on Saturday.

Etale said Ogeta was left by the police in Ruai, where he was driven to while blind folded.

"Maurice Ogeta, bodyguard of Raila Odinga was released from police custody a few minutes to 1:00am and driven while blindfolded and left in the middle of the road in Ruai towards Kangundo. His car is vandalized. However, he is happy to be alive but still distraught and in shock," he said.

According to police, he was being detained at Utawala police cells.

He was arrested in Nairobi on Wednesday over claims of being involved in the anti government protests.

The release came after a court on Friday ordered that he be presented before any court in the country.

Justice Lawrence Mugambi issued the ruling on Friday when the matter came up before him.

Mugambi further directed that responses on the matter be filed and served within three days after the order.

"That, pending the hearing and determination of this application inter-parties, a writ of habeus corpus is hereby issued directing the 2nd Respondent to produce Maurice Ogeta before a court of competent jurisdiction in Nairobi or any other Court within the Republic of Kenya for an inquiry into the issue of his detention," reads the notice.

"Leave is granted to the Petitioner/Applicant to file and serve any further documentation/replying affidavit if need be within three days," reads the notice.

The case will be mentioned on July 31, for compliance and further direction.
