As he discussed the school feeding program in Nairobi on Tuesday, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja revealed a side of himself that had never previously been seen.

The county chief sobbed as he discussed his Dishi na County plan, which will feed Nairobi students, in Roysambu.

As Sakaja spoke in front of President William Ruto, he took a minute to pose while crying and explaining how important the program was to him.

"I'm sorry your excellency but ni uchungu ya hawa watoto wanakosa chakula," he said.

The president was praised by Sakaja for backing his school feeding initiative.

"Vile watu wanakumbuka maziwa ya nyayo watu watakumbuka chakula ya Ruto," he said.

In Nairobi's public schools and ECDEs, complimentary lunches will cost Sh5 for students for the upcoming academic year 2023-2024.

The Dishi na County portion of Sakaja's School Feeding Program includes the Sh1.2 billion annual plan.

In ten sub-counties, the construction of central kitchens officially broke ground on Monday.

The first meal will be served on the first day of the third term of this academic year after an estimated 10-week construction period.

Embakasi Central, Embakasi South, Kasarani, Kibra, Makadara, Starehe, Roysamu, Ruaraka, and Westlands sub-counties are among the others in the project.

The effort, according to Governor Sakaja, is an extension of a long-held goal of his to guarantee that all students in public elementary schools and public early childhood development centers receive a daily hot lunch that is nutritionally balanced.
