President Ruto gifts Faith Kipyegon Sh5 million and Sh6 million house [Photos]

President William Ruto has awarded Faith Kipyegon with Sh5 million with a house worth Sh6 million for breaking two world records.

Ruto also noted that going forward the government will award Sh5 million to any Kenyan athlete who breaks a world record.

“Moving forward, the government will award Sh5 million to any Kenyan who breaks a World record. We will award Faith Kipyegon with Sh5 million for one record and a house worth Sh6 million for the other record,” President William Ruto said.

"She has won and broken two world records in 1500 meters in Florence Italy and 5000 in Paris, France. The government of Kenya is going to award her a total of Sh5 million for one record and we are going to give her a house worth Sh6 million for the other record," Ruto said.

The President added that it will be the same for the other world record breakers that will come after Faith Kipyegon.

Ruto said he had instructed the Ministry of Sports, Youth, and Arts that they move away from crowding the Sports Fund with other requirements and it is dedicated solely, to matters of sports, arts, and the creative economy.

A week after breaking the 1500m world record in Florence, Kipyegon etched her name into the record books for 5000m, winning in 14:05.20.

At the time, President Ruto was gifted the fastest man in Africa, Ferdinand Omanyala Sh2 million.

Omanyala was at the State House after an invite from President William Ruto.

"Mr. President, sisi kama athletes tunataka kutoka na chai, itakua vizuri sana (We as athletes, would like to have some tea before we leave State House)," he said. 

And when he finished his speech, the head of state said he had something for Omanyala. 

"Si umesema unataka kutoka hapa na kitu?" the president posed, and a dummy cheque of Sh2 million was brought. 

Another light moment was also witnessed when he said he received an invite call at 1 am. 

Omanyala said he was not expecting to be invited for such an occasion. 

"Mr President, it is such an honour to be here, I was called at around 1 am for this function, and I wasn't expecting to be invited. Thank you so much," he said. 

He also asked the President to renovate the Kasarani National Stadium track as he uses it for his training. 

"I train at Kasarani and the warm-up track is completely worn out, so if you can work on that as we head to the Olympics, it would be a great pleasure," he said.
