Sophia Wanunua lands new plum job at JSC after leaving KTN

Wanuna left KTN quietly after 12 years at a time she was serving as the Deputy Managing Editor.

Award-winning media personality Sophia Wanuna has been appointed as the deputy director and Head of Public Affairs and Corporate Communications at the Judicial Service Commission.

The appointment come weeks after Wanuna left Standard Group-owned TV station KTN.

In a statement released on Thursday, May 4, 2023, Wanuna’s appointment took effect on April 29, 2023. 

“Judicial Service Commission is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Sphia Wanuna as the deputy director and Head of public affairs and Corporate Communications at the JSC. The appointment took effect on 29th, April, 2023, read part of the statement.

Ms. Wanuna is a seasoned Communications professional with 15 years’ of experience.

JSC noted that they are banking on Wanuna's wealth of experience from the media as she is an established journalist and newsroom manager.

She began her career at KBC in 2008 and later joined K24 (Mediamax Network) in 2010.

 In 2011, she joined KTN (Standard Group) where she served rising to the position of Deputy Managing Editor.

In July 2021 Sophia Wanuna was appointed as the new Broadcast Content Editor in an acting capacity, replacing Peter Opondo who had been fired.

In an internal Memo authored by the then Editor in Chief Ochieng Rapuro, Wanuna’s appointment took effect on July 15, 2021.

“Last Friday, Our Editor Broadcasting Peter Opondo left the company to pursue other interests.

“I have therefore appointed Ms Sophia Wanuna to take charge of this segment of our operations until further notice.

"The editorial staff is hereby notified to collaborate with Ms Wanuna for purposes of keeping our broadcast operations and our promise to deliver quality, in-depth and timely content to the consumer on course. Ms Wanuna takes charge beginning July 15, 2021 read the internal Memo in 2021.

However, she left KTN quietly after 12 years at a time she was serving as the Deputy Managing Editor.

Ms. Wanuna holds a BA Communication, specialising in Public Relations from Daystar University.
