Machakos suspected arrested for sexually assaulting mentally ill woman

Cops have arrested a man who is suspected of sexually assaulting a 77- year-old mentally ill woman in Machakos on Tuesday.

Police said the suspect, 45, sneaked into the woman's bedroom before he was caught by the victim’s son.

According to police, the son had gone to check on his mother at around 11 pm.

The son’s arrival prompted the suspect to escape leading to a chase but when the son was overpowered he called the police for assistance and the man was later arrested.

"Luckily, the suspect had left behind his pair of trousers and shoes making it easier for the search team to trace him in the morning," police said.

Police said the suspect and the victim were escorted to Mbiuni Level 4 Hospital where medical tests confirmed that the victim had been sexually assaulted.

The suspect is currently in custody and being processed to face rape charges.
