The Police fraternity in Kitui has been thrown into mourning following the death of the Kitui Central sub-county Traffic Base Commander John Kimeu Muasya, on Thursday night.

Muasya is said to have driven himself for a medical check-up at a private hospital in Kitui town at 4.30 pm only to pass away four hours later.

Kitui central police Commander Peter Karanja said the death came as a shock because Muasya had spent most of the day in his office.

“After the day’s work, he complained of lower abdominal pain and told me that he was going to the hospital for a check-up. Just hours later, I was informed of his death,” he said.

He said that he was informed that the officer had breathing difficulties after he arrived at the hospital.

"He was then rushed to Kitui County Referral Hospital but was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital,” said Karanja.

The sub-county police boss added that the actual cause of his death would be determined after an autopsy is carried out on his body.

“We are mourning a dedicated officer who served with diligence and exceptional commitment. He loved his works and no one complained about him,” Karanja added.

The sub-county police commander said Muasya served in Kitui since 2020 and managed to instil decorum among all road users in Kitui.
