Eric Omondi arraigned in court for his unlawful assembly case

Comedian Eric Omondi's case where he is charged with engaging in an unlawful assembly will now be heard in May.

Omondi appeared in court alongside 17 others for the mention of his case before Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina.

He was represented by lawyers Danstan Omari and Cliff Ombeta.

The defense was served with all witness statements and the hearing date was set for May 19.

Onyina then directed the prosecution to bring all witnesses in that case on that day.

Omari also protested last week’s arrest of Omondi while at an Unga drive at City Stadium.

He told the court that after being taken in circles from one police station to another he was released the following day without charge.

Omari said the prosecution should tell the court if the arrest was connected to the current case before the court or not.

He wanted the court to protect Omondi from further intimidation and arrests but Onyina said he had no jurisdiction to grant those orders.

Omondi was charged alongside 17 others and it was alleged that on February 21 at Parliament Road they took part in an unlawful assembly.
