William Kabogo, the former Kiambu Governor has urged President William Ruto to allow other players into the power supply sector.

His statement comes on Saturday after most parts of the country were affected by a power blackout.

According to Kabogo, if the President allows other players into the sector, they can deliver power at a cheaper price than what Kenya Power is currently charging its customers.

"Time to end KPLC monopoly, William Ruto open up the industry for competition many companies will deliver power to the people at less than half the current prices of KPLC and I know you’re aware," he said.

Following numerous complaints by people on social media, Kenya Power announced a nationwide power outage.

The power blackout was said to be as a result of system disturbance thus the loss of power supply.

Complaints from Kenyans started streaming in at 6:00 pm on Saturday, with most residents in Nairobi lamenting that they were in the dark.

"We are working to restore normalcy within the shortest time possible," the lighting company said on Saturday.

Kenya Power said a fault occurred on Suswa-Loyangalani high-voltage power transmission line.

Later into the night, power was restored in most parts where there had been a blackout.
