Media personality Willis Raburu is mourning the death of his grandfather, Ker Willis Opiyo Otondi.

Through his social media platforms, the father of three described his grandpa as a strict but gentle soul.

Raburu is named after the late and has promised to honor his legacy and memory by carrying forth his name

"This one hits differently and hurts! My grandfather, who I am named after, Ker Willis Opiyo Otondi! How can it be though that just yesterday we were talking and today…..I remember how you used to joke and tell me “ Don’t play around with my name” always well-spoken, always speaking your mind. Always strict, yet gentle. An infectious laugh and smile," Raburu wrote.

Raburu further remembered how his grandfather cared for all of them and was always involved in their lives.

"You stood your ground. You cared for us all and wanted to be involved in our lives. As the Chair of the Luo Council of Elders, you also made your mark. I live to honor your legacy and memory by carrying forth your name! I am blessed and honored to continue with the name Willis Edwin Opiyo Otondi. Rest in Power “Ndungu” I will miss you!"

Otondi was receiving treatment at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital where he had been admitted for a while.

While Eulogising him, Kisumu Deputy Governor Mathew Owili said he was a visionary and dedicated servant of the community who served the Luo Council of Elders with diligence and sobriety.

Owili said his leadership and great personality endeared him to many as was his commitment to uniting the people.

"Today The Luo nation mourns its son, one whose leadership stood the test of time," he said.

The deputy governor added that Ker Otondi opened his gates to many, and his words of wisdom will forever remain priceless.

May His soul rest in peace.
