Education titan Prof George Magoha passed away on Tuesday, aged 71. He made headlines during his tenure as CS for good and bad reasons but the good always superseded the bad.

A few days before his death, Magoha landed a job at Maseno University.

He was going to teach at the university's School of Medicine.

On Wednesday, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga visited the family of the late Professor to condole with them.

During the visit, he addressed the media and opened up on details of the deal Magoha had bagged with Maseno University.

According to Raila, vice chancellor Prof Julius Nyabundi disclosed to them that as part of the agreement they had, Magoha had promised to do his best to improve teaching at the institution.

He had also said he would help improve operations at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital.

"The vice chancellor who is in the house has told us they interviewed him and offered him a teaching job at Maseno University and he said he was going to do his best at Maseno and try to improve the teaching and the hospital," Raila said.

An official at Maseno University who spoke to the Star said the School of Medicine works with the JOOTRH in training medical students.

He added that it is normal for the Professors to also work at the hospital as they teach.

Before his exit from Cabinet, Magoha who is a urologist had said that he planned to resume work at his Nairobi Hospital clinic.

"If you have problems passing urine, don't be afraid. You can visit my clinic at Nairobi Hospital. Just show your press card and you might get special treatment," he told journalists.

Before being appointed as Education CS in March 2019, he served as chairman of the Kenya National Education Council.

He also served as the University of Nairobi's vice chancellor between 2005 and 2015.
