Prime suspect accused of torturing baby Sagini detained for 4 days

The prime suspect in baby Junior Sagini case has been detained for four more days as detectives carry out further investigations.

Sagini, 3, had his eyes gouged out in a suspected ritual on Thursday night in Marani, Kisii.

Pacifica Nyakerario who was on the run was arrested on Monday evening in Nairobi.

She appeared before senior resident magistrate Christine Ongweno on Tuesday morning for attempted murder charges.

At the dock, Nyakerario wept uncontrollably as prosecution read the charges.

She will be detained at Rioma Police as she awaits a mention on Friday 23.

Nyakerario's arraignment comes a day after the first suspect, also her son - Alex Ochogo-was apprehended for similar charges.

Baby Sagini was attacked on Thursday after he broke away from the other children.

He was later found with eyes gouged out and writhing in pain.

Meanwhile, there was momentary drama outside the Kisii law court as women who turned up to listen to the proceedings accused the suspect of tainting Marani's name with the incident.
