Showmax, which is well known for their up to par Kenyan original shows, has now released another banger dubbed ‘Pepeta.’  Pepeta is the new show on the block with a rich relatable story to its audience.

Pepeta is based somewhat on the life of Harun "Rio" Wathari. The eight-part series depicts the hopes and realities of youngsters in Kibera, a neighborhood famed for producing some of the best football players in the nation.

Junior (Brahim Ouma), a 17-year-old gifted football player divided between the thrills of crime and the promises of soccer, is the subject of Pepeta, which tells his stories.

Biki (Lwanda Jawar), an ambitious football coach, is trying to get Junior and his friends scouted before they get themselves entangled in the life of crime. Kepha (George Mo), a ruthless cop with a personal grudge, is determined to cleanse the streets of criminals at any cost.

Since the first and second episodes of the series aired on November 24 and December 1, it has become the talk of the town. With viewers eagerly anticipating episode 3, the excellent scripting by Charles Ouda (Makutano Junction), Damaris Irungu (Crime and Justice) and Abigal Arunga (How to find a husband) has already attracted a devoted following.

New episodes of Pepeta produced by CJ3 Entertainment and directed by Vincent Mbaya (Country Queen) will air on Showmax every Thursday.

For him, acting is the symbolism of football for Junior, lead actor Brahim Ouma explains in an interview. He goes further to explain how ‘Pepeta’ is a narrative that is important to his heart. He emphasizes that it is a tale of young people's dreams and hopes coming true.

The show has 8 episodes in total and director Vincent Mbaya says that the best is yet to come and that the viewers should keep watching.
