Police officers have arrested Sixteen suspected thugs in Embakasi, Nairobi County.

Police said the suspected notorious criminals were nabbed on Friday night and locked up at Villa police station, Embakasi sub-county.

The arrests were made at 12.40 am and reports of the same were made at the same station.

Police said the arrests were made in a swoop following complaints of mugging from members of the public within the Transami area and the footbridge.

"Officers from this command accompanied by the NGAO team raided a hideout made of polythene and mabati structures and occupied by street families within TRANSAMI and arrested 16 notorious criminals," a police report seen by the Star read in part.

Police said on searching the makeshift houses, one toy pistol, 37 knives, 3 pangas, 2 hammers, 6 scissors,10 KPLC token meter boxes suspected to have been stolen, 158 rolls of bhang, 500 grams of bhang, 2 litres of chang'aa, three mobile phones and a digital decoder were recovered and kept as exhibits.

"They will be charged with various offences including preparation to commit felony," police said.

The scene was also visited by both the deputy county commissioner and sub-county police commander Embakasi. The makeshifts were demolished.
