The sting of death is been felt in the entertainment industry today after the news that legendary Kikuyu musician Jimmy Wayuni has passed away.
According to reports on social media, Wayuni was involved in a road accident last night at Wendani in Thika Road. It is reported that the Benga artiste was driving with fellow musician Kibandi Jacksam when their vehicle was reportedly rammed into from the side.
The Benga maestro is known for several popular hit songs, particularly on Kikuyu vernacular radio and television stations.
Among the well crafted Mugithi pieces in his broad repertoire include Airìtu a Ruiru, Anisa, Karenjù, Mama Sululu and Utuire uhenagia, while Jacksam is a gifted Kikuyu composer with several hits under his belt as well, among them Arume Hatuwezeki and Mwongoyo.
Some of the condolence messages read,
“My sincere heartfelt condolences to friends and the entire family. Ever smiling and good-hearted man, he has nurtured a lot of talents, he was a father to many. R.I.P my friend Wayuni from my village,” wrote Gikuyu TV presenter Togno Togno Jopallaru.
Last year, another popular Kikuyu benga musician, John Demathew passed away on the same Thika Superhighway at Blue Post.
Thika Base Commander Elenah Wamuyu said Demathew’s car rammed into a lorry near Blue Post Hotel. He was alone in the car.
Gatanga MP Ngugi Nduati said DeMathew was coming from a harambee that was held at Metro Bar in Thika in support of fellow musician Peter Kigia.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at Thika Nursing Home.
